What is Regenerative Medicine?

You may have heard of anti-aging treatments, but have you heard of Regenerative Medicine?

Regenerative medicine is defined as the regeneration of cells and tissues to restore youthfulness and is an exciting new frontier in medicine.

Regenerative aesthetics is a branch of regenerative medicine that focusses on enhancing your body’s innate system for natural repair and healing.

All aesthetic treatments are to a certain extent “regenerative” as they harness your innate ability to heal and regenerate.  Examples include: Microneedling, RF Microneedling, Vascular Laser Treatments, Fractional ablative Laser treatments etc.   But how do we get our cells to regenerate faster and in a more controlled manner?  Here’s a run down on the Regenerative Aesthetic treatments currently available at PureSkin Dermatology:

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) or Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)
After collecting your blood sample, we can concentrate your plasma that contains platelets, growth factors and stem cells.  PRP and PRF can then be injected to restore volume, applied post microneedling to help with hair restoration, or used post laser treatments to help accelerate healing and skin rejuvenation.

Biostimulator Fillers
Sculptra (Poly-L-Lactic Acid or PLLA) is a bio-stimulating filler treatment that stimulates your own collagen production to smooth facial wrinkles and improve skin firmness. Radiesse (Calcium Hydroxyapatite or CaHA) is another injectable that provides instant volume and stimulates your natural collagen and elastin production.  These injectables can be used on the face, neck, hands, chest and may other areas of the body that need a little “lift”.

Exosomes
Coming soon to PureSkin Dermatology, exosomes are tiny little messenger vesicles that are harvested from stem cells and tell cells how to grow.  When used in in aesthetic treatments, exosomes can accelerate healing, decrease inflammation, and stimulate collagen and elastin production.  A note of caution: these are still very new and further rigorous testing and studies are required before they are ready for prime time!
