What are fillers?

Dermal fillers are an injectable treatment made of a natural hyaluronic acid, which adds volume back to facial tissue, resulting in a rejuvenated appearance.

As we age, wrinkles and creases begin to appear as the underlying collagen and elastin fibers begin to break down and wear out. Dermal fillers are used to immediately restore youthfulness and volume.

Who is a candidate for fillers?

  • Individuals who would like to add or restore volume to areas of the face or neck.
  • Those seeking to smooth out wrinkles, lines, or folds, such as the nasolabial folds or marionette lines, or improve the appearance of recessed scars.
  • Individuals looking to enhance facial contours or improve facial symmetry.

What To Expect

What to expect during treatment

Prior to your procedure, an assessment will be made by our Medical Director to determine the type of product and appropriate amount needed. Using a fine needle or cannula, the dermal filler will be carefully injected into the targeted areas of the face and/or neck. Multiple injections may be administered to treated areas. Our skincare experts use precise technique to ensure natural-looking results.

You may feel a slight pinch or pressure during the injections, but any discomfort is typically minimal. Dermal fillers contain lidocaine, however, for your comfort, we may decide to use a topical numbing agent or local anesthesia injections prior to filler injections.

You may have a very small amount of pinpoint bleeding where the needle was inserted. This usually subsides in a few minutes.

What to expect after treatment

The results of dermal filler treatment are immediate, with enhanced volume and diminished wrinkles visible right after the procedure.

You may apply ice packs to ease tenderness and swelling after the procedure. We recommend you do not manipulate, rub, massage or apply pressure to the treated areas or lay face down after treatment.

There may be some temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, but these effects usually subside within 1-3 days. You may feel lumps where the filler was injected, these will subside in about 3 – 5 days and are usually not visible.

It is always a possibility that you may not get the desired result after one treatment. Additional treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal desired results.

FAQ

How long dermal fillers last depend on what type of product was used, where it was injected and on your metabolism. On average, results can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months.
There is very little downtime after filler treatment. You may have some swelling, numbness, and redness for a few hours following the procedure, but will be able to return to your daily activities as soon as you feel comfortable with how you look.
Absolutely. The mechanism of action for filler is different from Botox, whereas fillers add back volume, Botox stops muscle contraction. We often recommend using both Botox and Dermal Fillers to help you achieve superior results – fillers provide instant facial rejuvenation while Botox helps to minimize muscle contraction, leading to longer lasting, superior results.
