What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Our blood is mostly composed of plasma, a liquid which contains red cells, white cells, and platelets. Platelets are known to help clot the blood and contain growth factors that have healing properties. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is developed from your own blood by concentrating the number of platelets and growth factors, by spinning the blood down using a centrifuge. These concentrated platelets and growth factors (PRP) are now ready for injection into the desired site.

PRP can be used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, collagen loss, under eye circles/hollows, and much more.

Who is a candidate for PRP?

  • Individuals who are looking to improve their skin quality and smooth out fine lines.
  • PRP can be injected directly into the skin or trouble areas or combined with other treatments.
  • PRP can be combined with other treatments as post procedure care to help with healing and rejuvenation, such as microneedling and laser resurfacing treatments.

What To Expect

What to expect during treatment

During your procedure, one of our skin experts will take a sample of your blood, which is then spun in a centrifuge. Once the highly concentrated platelet rich plasma has separated from the other components in the sample, it is harvested and injected into the skin.

You may feel a slight pinch or pressure during the injections, but any discomfort is typically minimal.

You may have a very small amount of pinpoint bleeding where the needle was inserted. This usually subsides in a few hours.

What to expect after treatment

After PRP treatment, the injection site may be sore for 24-48 hours. Ice can help reduce swelling, and over-the-counter pain medications such as Tylenol can be taken as needed.

Patients may experience some bruising at the injection site. Patients should avoid strenuous activity for at least 24 hours after the procedure to allow the area to heal properly.

PRP therapy is a safe and effective way to treat various skin issues, and most patients experience little to no downtime after the procedure.
